This week:
By Day 1 (Thursday), submit
the Academic Integrity Declaration.
By Day 3 (Saturday), submit
your Initial Response to the Collaboration Forum.
By Day 7 (Wednesday), submit
your Participation responses to the Collaboration Forum.
By Day 7 (Wednesday), submit
your Individual Assignment.
Collaboration: The Research Idea
Choosing a research topic is the first
step in any research process. In this collaboration, you will explore your
initial motivations for research, and a potential research problem that you
would like to explore.
The topic needs to be focused and the
overall intended research should be feasible, with clear expectations regarding
the contribution it is expected to make to academia.
For this week's Discussion Question, you
present your motivation for doing research by considering your own interests in
a specific research field. In addition, you discuss if/how your proposed topic
has been studied previously by making reference to two published papers in
your field.
This response will be expected to
be in the region of 500 words. Ensure that your style of
referencing follows the Harvard Style requirements.
Collaboration Initial Response:
To prepare for this Initial Response:
Review the required Learning Resources
for Week 1.
Reflect on a current challenge or
problem you or others have faced, preferably in your workplace or related to
your organisation, and write down what you know about the problem, including
how it arose, who is involved and the impact it has had on your organisation.
Is there anything about this
challenge/problem that you would like to explore in further detail, and why?
Conduct your own library research to
locate at least two additional scholarly articles published in your specific
research field relevant to your research topic idea.
To complete this Initial Response:
By Day 3 (Saturday)
In 500 words, address the following
issues/questions:
State your idea for a topic as a question
that would be answered through your dissertation research (hint: “what” or
“why” type issues tend to work better in dissertations; “how to” type issues
are unlikely to be appropriate for
dissertations). Remember that you have only 40 weeks
(began August 16th) and 20,000 words for your dissertation so keep
your topic well focused. Topics involving predictions of the future or
that require knowledge of future outcomes do not work in a
dissertation as you cannot know whether the prediction or outcomes will occur
as expected.
Describe your motivation for doing this
research, by considering your own interests in a specific research field.
Discuss to what extent your proposed topic
area has been studied previously by making reference to the two published
papers you found in the topic area. If you actually have found a gap
in academic knowledge there should be no prior literature on
your specific topic, the literature would be in the broader
topic area.
Submit your Initial Response to Turnitin and
to the Collaboration Forum.
Until Day 7 (Wednesday)
Participate in the Collaboration Forum by
engaging in a discussion with your colleagues, posting and replying to each
other’s posts. Offer support and evidence based upon literature and/or your
prior experience, extend the discussion into new but relevant areas, raise
insightful questions and model critical reflection.
In doing so, you may want to:
In doing so, you may want to:
Examine the appropriateness and
feasibility of the research ideas and your classmates’ personal research skills
and background.
Consider the scope of the proposed
topics together with their limitations and potential contributions to the wider
subject areas.
You should participate with follow-on
postings to your colleagues’ responses, making 3-5 significant follow-up
postings. Spread your total collaboration discussions across at least 3
separate days of each week.
Individual Assignment: Proposal
In this week’s assignment, you will
begin to generate a broadly specified topic for the Dissertation/Research
Project that you will eventually carry out. In this first week, you are
required to think about some of the key parameters that may influence your
choice of topic and to communicate initial ideas to the module Instructor for
comment.
After receiving Instructor feedback, you
will review and refine your choice of topic. That refined outline will then
function as a foundation for subsequent work to be carried out in the module.
In this week’s submission, you should
address each of the following points:
Outline the general management topic or
problem that you plan to address in your dissertation/research project.
Outline the aims and objectives of your
research and formulate research questions/hypotheses.
Discuss briefly the feasibility of the
study. For example: Do you have access to the information/data you need? Do you
have the necessary background and skills to conduct the research?
Your answer to this assignment should be
around 350-500 words, and should be posted to the Assignment link
provided by Day 7 (Wednesday).
For only $35, our experts will help come up with a potential
research topic for your Dissertation line with UOL standards. Please contact us

Week 2 Assessments
This
week:
By Day
3 (Saturday), submit your Initial Response to the Collaboration Forum.
By Day
7 (Wednesday), submit your Participation responses to the Collaboration
Forum.
Collaboration:
Choosing the Methodology
In this week’s
collaboration, you will explore the characteristics of a number of
methodologies used in published research.
Note that
"methodology" refers to how you would collect and analyze your data;
"method" refers to the type of data collected, qualitative,
quantitative, or both ("mixed methods).
Whether
using a case-study, research that relies upon grounded theory, econometrics, or
another research methodology you research design should ensure that the chosen
methodological framework meets the objectives of the research and helps the
researcher answer the research questions.
For
this week's Discussion Question, you will evaluate the characteristics of the
methodologies used in the two published academic papers (i.e. published in
academic journals) from your field, and consider whether those align to your
own research plans.
This
response will be expected to be in the region of 500 words.
Ensure that your style of referencing follows the Harvard Style requirements.

Collaboration: Quantitative Research Design
In this week’s collaboration, you will shape your
research idea within the context of a quantitative research framework.
For this week's Discussion Question, you will shape
your research idea within the context of a quantitative research framework,
analyse the optimal data collection process that could align to your research
idea, explore the strengths and weaknesses of the chosen technique and,
finally, critically discuss the potential validity and reliability of the data
that you plan to collect.
Explain how your research ideas could take the shape
of a quantitative research project. In formulating your response to the
Discussion Question, consider the following questions:
What specific methods would you implement for data
collection and analysis?
What type of data would you need to tackle the
research question(s)?
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the research
design?
Can you recommend ways to maximise the validity and
reliability of the data to be collected?
This response will be expected to be in the region of 500
words. Ensure that your style of referencing follows the Harvard Style
requirements.

Individual Assignment: Proposal
In this stage of the Proposal, you will explore how
your work fits existing published work, by reviewing literature on your
research topic. While gathering sources for your review, keep in mind that your
final literature review for the dissertation/research project should represent
a thorough understanding of what has already been written about the subject. In
addition, consider how your research question derives from the knowledge you
have gained from the resources in your review.
Choose three articles from online library resources
which are relevant to the subject of your dissertation/research project, and
complete a review of these articles. Discuss the key arguments and findings,
describing how you think they apply to your topic and specific research questions,
plus the potential implications of these findings for your research.
Remember that you must paraphrase the articles in your
own words (appropriately referenced, of course) and synthesise their potential
contribution to your research; they should not be presented as a 'list' of
articles.
Add your analysis to Section 2 of your Proposal Pro
forma (together with an updated version of Section 1, following the feedback
you have received from your Instructor), and submit this to the Assignment link
by Day 7 (Wednesday). This initial literature review will form an integral part
of the formal Proposal that is due for submission at the end of this module.
Your answer (i.e. Section 2) to this assignment should
be around 750 words.

Individual Assignment: Proposal
Once you have established the research question,
reviewed the existing literature on your topic and chosen a research
methodology, you will be ready to engage in the data collection phase of the
research process. This week, you are looking closely at the methods you will
use to collect and analyse the data/information that will address your research
question.
Your assignment for this week is to complete the first
draft of the methodology section of your Proposal (Section 3). Please
indicate:
Include which methodology you have chosen to use for
your research, and discuss how it is consistent with your epistemological
stance.
·
Describe the data
collection method(s) you will use (such as questionnaire, interviews, focus
groups), and justify how these will be sufficient to answer your research
question.
·
Include as much detail as
you can about your participants and how they will be chosen (Note: The same
applies to the sample of secondary information, if you choose that approach.)
·
Briefly describe how you
will analyse the data collected and the tools needed for a proper analysis,
based on your chosen method.
·
Describe how you will
address the political and ethical challenges that may arise as you conduct your
research.

Qualitative
Research Design
In the previous 2 weeks, you tailored your original
research topic specifically to consider a quantitative design. Following this
week’s introduction and further reading exercises on qualitative research,
return back to these initial ideas. Recommend a qualitative
research design that could potentially align with the topic under
investigation, taking into account the main advantages and disadvantages, as
well as the main feasibility constraints and your own personal skills.
In formulating your response to the Discussion
Question, consider the following questions:
Which qualitative methodology would be most suited to
your research paradigm?
In what way could you contextualise your research from
a qualitative perspective?
Which sampling methods would be most valuable for your
data collection?
What are the key differences in planning your research
from a quantitative and qualitative perspective?
This response will be expected to be in the region
of 500 words. Ensure that your style of referencing
follows the Harvard Style requirements.

Collaboration: Mixed Methods Research
Design
In this week’s
collaboration, you will consider a mixed-methods approach that you could adopt
for your research study.
While neither
quantitative nor qualitative approaches can be considered completely without
bias, qualitative methodologies and methods are, by far, the more subjective of
the two. Some argue that the key purpose is to investigate a problem by using
the advantages of both quantitative and qualitative methods to enrich the
approach. However, at the same time, it requires knowledge of both methods of
data collection and analysis and a good reason for the choices made.
For this week’s
Discussion Question, you are asked to critically reflect on the types of
mixed-methods that you could potentially use in your research, considering
their benefits and limitations. What are the barriers to data integration which
you would expect at this stage of the research? Also, critically analyse the
reasons why you would proceed (or not) with the adoption of mixed methods in
your proposed research and describe briefly the barriers to data integration
which you would expect.
This response will be
expected to be in the region of 500 words. Ensure that your style of
referencing follows the Harvard Style requirements.

·
Presentation of the research
methods that will be used to collect primary and/or the secondary data
·
Information about the sampling
techniques
·
Collected sample
(Sufficiently large? Why?)
